Earthquake and Tsunami Preparedness
Component 4a

This component recognizes growing urban vulnerability to earthquakes caused by increasing population densities and unplanned development and responds to the 2004 Indonesian tsunami.  This component is to facilitate the preparation of the earthquake emergency plans with a view to strengthen the capacity of the city dwellers to face, manage and operate the plan effectively in the event of the earthquakes.

ADPC will carry out the Seismic Hazard and Vulnerability Mapping of Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet city corporation areas in collaboration with three partner agencies namely Oyo International Corporation (OIC)-Japan, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)-Thailand, National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET)-Nepal. As a measure of transferring the technology and skills in conducting Seismic Hazard and Vulnerability Mapping counterpart contributions will be obtained from University of Dhaka- Department of Geology, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET)-Department of Civil Engineering and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) - Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, NIRAPAD, BCAS and Bangladesh Disaster Preparedness Center (BDPC). 

The Earthquake and Tsunami Preparedness component has three projects:
