Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) Updates HOPE Course
Design Meeting in Bangkok
A
Hospital Preparedness for Emergency (HOPE) course design meeting was
conducted from 25-26 March in Bangkok. A draft of the course topics was
reviewed and put into a five-day course session consisting of four HOPE
components: organizational, structural, non-structural and medical. This
is the first of a series of development and review meetings at the end
of which course materials will be ready for pilot testing.
MFR Course in
India and Indonesia
The
Medical First Response (MFR) Course for India was held from 17-30 March
2002, and for Indonesia from 7-20 April 2002. MFR India participants
came from first response agencies in Delhi, while participants of MFR
Indonesia came from first response organizations based in Jakarta. The
team of instructors was comprised of regional MFR graduates who attended
the MFR Instructor Workshop in Thailand. Master trainers from Miami Dade
Fire Rescue Department were the course monitors.
CSSR Course in
Nepal
A
Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) Course and a CSSR
Adaptation Workshop will be conducted in Kathmandu, Nepal from 28 April
to 8 May 2002. The course will be attended by search and rescue
personnel from India and Nepal. The purpose of CSSR is to provide
individuals with search and rescue tasks, the knowledge and skills
necessary to search for, stabilize and extricate victims trapped in
collapsed structures using the safest and most appropriate techniques.
SAR Canine
Training in Nepal
ADPC,
in collaboration with the Royal Nepal Army and the Royal Nepal Police,
will conduct training on Search and Rescue Canines in Kathmandu from
6-11 May 2002. The purpose of the training is to provide dog handlers
with skills to train dogs to search for live victims trapped in
collapsed structures during disaster situations.
