APEC - Funded Exercise Management Workshop

Background

The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has secured funding from APEC to conduct a workshop in exercise management, for people from APEC member economy animal and human health services. This course will be conducted by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) in Bangkok from 30 April to 04 May 2007.

Purpose

The purpose of this workshop is to enhance APEC member economies’ ability to design, conduct and evaluate emergency management simulation exercises.

Objectives

The objectives of this workshop are to provide participants with:

  1. The skills and knowledge required to conduct simulation exercises,

  2. The opportunity to practise the skills and knowledge required to conduct a simulation exercise,

  3. A range of resources that they can use to conduct simulation exercise in their own economies.

Program

This workshop will be conducted over five days. It will include facilitator-led discussions, group activities, group presentations and guest speakers. An indication of the program and suggested times is detailed in the course program.

Expectation of participants

During this workshop, participants are expected to contribute towards the objectives through participation in presentations and discussions on the various elements of exercise management, where possible, sharing their experiences and knowledge with other participants.

Participants will also be required to design and develop an exercise based on the information provided, provide a presentation on how they would conduct this exercise and undertake an evaluation of the processes involved. It is expected that this exercise design will then form the basis for exercises to be conducted within their own economies.
