BMG replicated CFA program in 30
										districts

											Instructed by their
											experience in producing localized
											forecast for the Indramayu district,
											BMG has been producing localized
											forecast for 30 districts. This
project started in 2004 when BMG
											developed localized forecast for 10
											districts. For this project, BMG
made a 3-4 billion rupiah investment
											in 2006, representing a 300 percent
											increase from 2005 budget.
											Institutional mechanisms at the
											district level involving BMG and
											district officials have been
											established to interpret and make
use of climate information to manage
climate risks in water resources and
											agriculture sectors.

										Workshop on climate
										forecast applications for managing
										climate risks
										Indramayu, West Java, Indonesia (May
										2006)

											Hosted by the
district of Indramayu in West Java
from May 15-16, 2006, the workshop
lays the ground for the spatial and
											sectoral expansion of climate
											forecast applications based on the
											experiences of Indramayu and Iloilo.

										Institutionalizing
										climate forecast applications in Central
										Kalimantan

											ADPC, in
											collaboration with CARE Indonesia,
											facilitated a workshop entitled
											"Institutionalization of Climate
											Forecast Applications" at
											Palangaraya, Central Kalimantan from
											16-17 March 2006. It was
											specifically aimed at improving the
											capacity of the provincial
											government officers to manage
											climate related risks in
											agriculture, livestock, fisheries,
											forestry, health, and provincial
											planning. The two-day workshop has
helped to develop a framework for
											application of climate forecast
											information for forest fire
											management. Further opportunities in
this area will be explored in
											Indonesia.

										Workshop on
										client-oriented agro-meteorological
										services
										Jakarta, Indonesia (9-10 March 2006)

											ADPC co-organized a
											workshop with the Bureau of
											Meteorology and Geophysics, World
											Meteorological Organization, and
											Ministry of Agriculture, on
											climate-oriented agro-meteorological
											services to support agricultural
											development in Indonesia. The
											workshop gathered about 150 local
											participants, as well as
											representatives from the
											Philippines, East Timor, PNG, Fiji,
											and Malaysia. Workshop discussions
focused on the following themes: (i)
											client-oriented agro-meteorological
											services; (ii) climate variability,
											extreme climate events and
											agricultural production; (iii) the
use of modern technology in agro-meteorogical
											applications; and (iv) local
strategies to mitigate the impact of
											extreme climate events. The outcome
of the workshop was an agreement to
											prepare a document describing the
											climate sensitive stages of various
											crops planted all over Indonesia.
ADPC will be involved in this
activity based on the needs of local
											organizations.

										PHILIPPINES

										Dumangas mayor advocates
										for expanding climate forecast
										applications in more provinces

											In the Philippines,
											Dumangas has been advocating the
											expansion of climate forecast
											applications in different provincial
											and national fora. Sibalum, a
											neighboring municipality located in
											the Antique province has been
											mobilizing resources to institute
the same program. In April 2005, the
											Mayors' League of the Philippines
has appointed the Mayor of Dumangas
to serve as the adviser for disaster
											management and preparedness program.
											This bodes well for promoting
											climate forecast applications in a
											national scale.

										OTHER COUNTRIES

											China and India have
											approached ADPC to establish pilot
											sites in provinces/states that are
											vulnerable to climate risks. This
year, ADPC will sign memoranda of
											agreements with these countries
based on the discussions made during
											country missions. Updates will be
											posted as this come.
