Workshop for the Pilot
Testing for the new
Zoonotic Diseases
Training Package ‘One Health Initiative’
2-6 August 2010, Bangkok,
Thailand
The PHE team will be
holding a Workshop for the Pilot Testing
for the new Zoonotic Diseases Training
Package ‘One Health Initiative’ in
Bangkok, from 2-6 August 2010. The
Training is being supported by the
Rockefeller Foundation.
The Workshop will be an
opportunity for delegates to contribute
to the review and finalization of the
Zoonotic Diseases Training Package; a
set of modules which have been developed
by the Murdoch University Faculty of
Health Sciences (Australia), University
of Chiang Mai School of Veterinary
Medicine, and Macro International. The
Training Package is being coordinated by
ADPC, with input from Ministries of
Health, Livestock/Agriculture, UN
Agencies, academic institutions and
NGOs, as well as medical and animal
health practitioners.
The Zoonotic Diseases
Training Package is designed for a
broad-spectrum approach, incorporating
history and overview of ‘One Health’,
disaster risk preparedness and response
to zoonotic diseases, surveillance and
monitoring, and cross-cutting issues. It
is designed to facilitate the sharing of
information between the fields of animal
and human health, and provide
professionals with the skills to manage
the threat of zoonotic diseases
effectively. The primary goal is to
provide a vital and appropriate training
tool for personnel who need to deal with
zoonotic diseases emergencies, from
Ministries of Health,
Livestock/Agriculture, local
governments, NGOs, UN and International
Agencies.
The Pilot Workshop will
be the first time the Training Package
modules have been presented together.
There will be opportunities for active
sharing, participation and evaluation.
This training package is
the result of the One-Day Zoonotic
Diseases Curriculum Development
Workshop, held in Bangkok on 8 December
2009.
