A severe disaster of Dhaka city is ‘building collapse’ which is highly fatal for human. A recent collapse on 24 April 2013, Rana Plaza, an eight-story commercial building in Savar, is one of the deadliest (or highest) collapse of garment’s history died nearly 1150 and injured about 2550. Not only Rana Plaza, but many other buildings are collapsing and will collapse as most of the building is vulnerable to disaster as builder don’t follow the proper structure of engineers.
I went to an engineer asking about building collapse, he tells, “corruption and power makes vulnerable”. I also asked him what could be done if we wanted to overcome collapse. He tells, “There is no way but destroying illegal buildings with strengthening column of the building”.
Another government official has been asked about building collapse that how to overcome it. He tells, “We have to rebuild a vulnerable building shifting people from another place, otherwise will face a great disaster which may be a worst history”.
Finally, it can be concluded that Dhaka will be saved if vulnerable people could be shifted to a safe place though it is very costly and will have to rebuild Dhaka with proper guidance. Otherwise, Dhaka will not be saved from being smashed and damaged by a small earthquake or other natural (man-made) calamities.
