We are pleased to offer you this issue of Asian Disaster Management News on linking community-based disaster management with issues of local governance.Our sincere thanks to colleagues Zenaida Delica Willison and Josh Moga who guest edited the issue and provided overall guidance on the structure and content.

The lead article by Manu Gupta draws upon his experience in India and presents practical insights to building synergies between community-based initiatives and local governments. In other articles, Christine Apikul and NMSI Arambepola draw upon ADPC and its partners' experiences in Nepal and Sri Lanka in grappling with the same issues. We also feature an article by our new colleague Robin Willison on his experiences in community-based health initiatives in war-ravaged parts of south Sudan.
