Dear Readers,

It is a great pleasure to offer you this issue of Asian Disaster Management News on "Gender and Disasters". We hope that disaster managers in the region would find it useful. Our sincere thanks to Jean D' Cunha for contributing the invited feature article for this issue and providing us invaluable guidance for the overall structure and content of this issue. We are also indebted to Elaine Enarson of University of British Columbia for sharing her bibliography on the subject and for contributing the "insight" article.

By the time this issue reaches many of you, ADPC in collaboration with NOAA would be gearing up to organize the Asian Regional Meeting on El Niño related Crises. In the next issue we will focus on El Niño related disaster management issues. As always, we welcome you all to contribute to it and share your views and experiences on the issue.
