Intemet resources are beginning to play a vital role in catering to the information and networking needs of the disaster management community in the region. Here we present a brief list of sites that might be useful to our readers. AIT Disaster Preparedness Index homepage. Maintained by the Asian Institute of Technology this page provides useful links to a number of disaster related sites. The links have been classified as: Latest Disaster-Related News (e.g. UNDP/DHA Daily Info Report, Earthquake Reports and Location Maps -Updated Daily); Hazards Related Information (eg, Coastal Hazards, Natural Hazards etc.); and Information Repositories (e.g. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center at AIT, Australian Disaster Management Information Network). The International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) home page. This Web page provides information on the Decade Program, U.N. Resolutions Concerning the Decade, Yokohama Strategy for A Safer World, IDNDR Secretariat Speeches and Presentations, Scientific and Technical Committee Reports and other latest information on IDNDR activities. The homepage of UN-IDNDR and QUIPUNET Internet Conference on Solutions for Cities at Risk. This site was looked at about 82,000 times during September and October 1996, while the conference was going on. The main topic was how cities act to reduce the impact of natural disasters. What have they done in the past and what are their recommendations for the future? The site provides the proceedings of this conference held last year. HazardNet homepage. HazardNet is an experimental service. It provides data, maps and images are drawn from a variety of services around the world. The information provided may not be always complete or current. The page provides introductory information to the HazardNet, its Operational Services and Informational Services. The Internet Disaster Information Network (IDIN) homepage. The IDIN, provided as a public service by Internet Direct and Telekachina Productiom, helps to distribute the latest news on disaster situations to the Internet community via the World Wide Web. The information provided includes ongoing disaster situation reports, reports on past disasters and other related links. |
