  • Ms. Chinaporn Meechaiya

  • Hydrologist
  • Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC)

Chinaporn is a dedicated Hydrologist and Climate Vulnerability and Impact Specialist, contributing her expertise to the Climate Resilience department, as well as the SERVIR South East Asia (SERVIR SEA) programs at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). With a robust background in hydrology, hydraulics, urban design, and urban planning, she also possesses advanced skills in Remote Sensing. Her primary focus lies in flood risk management and the development of flood early warning systems.

Chinaporn's career is marked by a significant presence in varied international settings, including the Lower Mekong Regions, South East Asia, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. She has played a pivotal role in pioneering the integration of vulnerability and impact assessments concerning climate-induced disasters, focusing especially on protecting vulnerable communities. Her innovative approach leverages geospatial information technology, enhancing our understanding of potential effects and advancing efforts towards climate resilience. Her work embodies the principle of inclusivity, ensuring that efforts to combat climate change do not overlook any affected population.

Educationally, Chinaporn is a distinguished alumna of Chulalongkorn University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Urban Design, and Urban Planning. She continued her academic pursuits with an Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Water Science and Engineering, specializing in Flood Risk Management, from the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in Delft, the Netherlands, where she was awarded the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship. Her thirst for knowledge led her to attain a Master of Science in Hydro-Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, as well as a Master of Science in Flood Risk Management from the Technical University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.

Currently, Chinaporn's quest for expertise continues as she embarks on a PhD journey at Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente, the Netherlands. Her research focuses on leveraging Big Earth Data to bolster Flood Resilience, with a specific emphasis on socio-economic vulnerability. Her pioneering work aims to enhance decision-making processes in flood preparedness and response, as well as health impact assessment, through the application of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation.
