Hinthada Township, Ayeyawaddy Region, is situated on the west bank of the Ayeyawaddy River and Kyauk Ye Village, Thei Yoe Village, Kyet Kyune Village, Nan Daw Kyune Village, Sein Pan Kone Village, and Let Pan Hla Villages are severely hit by the floods.

The flood tide of the river begins early monsoon in the month of Nayone (June), and villages are submerged in water in the months of Wa So and Wa Khaung (July and August). It usually floods twice a year and sometimes three times a year. The water level exceeds danger level, 2.13 meter (7 feet) above ground. The flood water lasts for 15-16 days and schools, houses, sheds where cattle are kept, straw shelves are submerged in water. Such difficulties are faced during the floods.

People have to make lofts in their houses to take shelter during the floods. Purified drinking water is scarce. With the lead of Myanmar Red Cross Society, benefactors from Hinthada Township and Yangon donated rice bags, purified drinking water, cooking oil, iodine salt packets and instant noodle packets.

In 2015, Myanmar Red Cross Society donated the shelter for flood victims and two manual tube wells built high above the ground to get purified drinking water during the floods.

Vegetables are grown on the alluvial soil that results from the yearly flooding. It makes good sales by planting the nurseries of tomatoes and chili in bags before the flood water falls and grown after the floods. Residents face a lot of difficulties resulting from the floods but get good rewards for plantation.

In order to develop the livelihood of flood victims, flood insurance and provision of necessary medicines should be carried out.
