Established as a training center over three decades ago, ADPC has evolved into an intergovernmental organization implementing multi-stakeholder projects equally focused on training and capacity building, knowledge exchange, and networking for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate resilience in Asia and the Pacific. Specialized training courses on a variety of disaster and climate change related topics remained part of ADPC’s portfolio.

ADPC continued to implement on-site learning exercises for national and sub-national government officials through exposure visits, classroom learning, and knowledge sharing. In addition to classroom training methods, ADPC, in association with various world-class institutions, has been promoting peer-to-peer learning through regular exchange of experience and knowledge by and among DRR practitioners. This has encouraged stakeholders to learn from their counterparts at the national, sub-national, and local levels. On-site learning is another innovative element of ADPC’s capacity development strategy. Through adult learning for employed professionals, this model allows staff to visit and interact with professionals in other geographical areas facing similar hazards.
