ADPC Welcomes New Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand

Bangkok, August 30, 2024 – The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) warmly welcomes H.E. Mrs. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe the newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand. Sri Lanka is among the nine founding member countries that has ratified the ADPC Charter along with Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand. The Ambassador represents Sri Lanka as member of ADPC Board of Trustee (BoT).

ADPC has a long-standing relationship with Sri Lanka, working together on various initiatives to enhance disaster risk reduction and climate resilience in the country. The arrival of her excellency is expected to further strengthen these efforts, promoting knowledge exchange, capacity building, and sustainable development through disaster risk reduction practices that benefit both Sri Lanka and the broader Asia-Pacific community.

ADPC's Executive Director, Mr. Hans Guttman, expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, stating, "We are delighted to welcome her excellency and look forward to deepening our collaboration with Sri Lanka. The challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters are shared across borders, and through cooperative efforts, we can create a safer and more resilient future for all."

As part of the welcome, ADPC delegation led by Hans Guttman, Executive Director, together with Mr. Aslam Perwaiz, Deputy Executive Director, and Dr. Sisira Madurapperuma, Director of Preparedness for Response and Recovery Department met with the Ambassador, highlighting ongoing projects and exploring new avenues for cooperation. The discussion underscored the shared commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness, response, and recovery in the face of increasing environmental challenges.
