2006 November

ADPC conducted mission to Hanoi for Climate Forecast Applications in Vietnam project, 5-13 November 2006

Under the Climate Forecast Applications (CFA) project, representatives from ADPC visited Hanoi on November 5-13 in order to 1) identify constraints and opportunities in the generation of downscaled climate information; 2) document existing forecast products and on-going research in targeted provinces, districts, and communes; 3) understand the relevance of forecast information for decision making; and 4) document decision calendars. The primary partners in this project are the National Hydrometeorological Service, Quang Tri Department of Science and Technology, and Gio Linh District Storm and Flood Control Committee. The CFA project in Vietnam is supported by the US National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration.

First local Climate Forum held in Iloilo, Philippines, 15 November 2006

The Climate Forecast Applications (CFA) program initiated the process of holding seasonal Climate Forum in Iloilo Province, Philippines in order to institutionalize a dialogue between PAGASA and climate forecast users at the provincial and local level. The first Climate Forum was convened on 15 November 2006 by the Iloilo Provincial Government through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO). It was the first time that such forum was held at the sub-national level. The forum was attended by 35 participants representing municipal, regional and provincial-level agencies. Representatives from national-level agencies namely PAGASA and the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) served as resource persons. The Forum helped ensure that the forecast products provided by PAGASA, including their inherent uncertainties, are understood by and communicated to users in a timely manner. The Forum also provided a venue for forecast users to give feedback on the relevance and applicability of PAGASA’s forecast products in managing climate-associated risks in various sectors.
