Publication Overview/Description

Comprehensive and immediate response to increasing frequency and severity of floods in Ethiopia. Support to affected communities includes provisions for rehabilitation in the aftermath of such catastrophic events. The Government of Ethiopia collaborated with Advancement of Recovery Initiatives for Safer Ethiopia project (ARISE II) to provide non-food items (NFI) to 4,000 households in the Afar region. This After-Action Review (AAR) compiles experiences and lessons learned from a participatory implementation of flood response in the Afar Region, and subsequent documentation to identify lessons and plan corrective actions for successful future interventions. The observations, perspectives, and data seek to improve their flood emergency response practices for future interventions. ARISE project was implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in partnership with the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC) and with financial support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (the foundation).
