Publication Overview/Description

ADPC participated in the Enhancing the Financial Resilience of ASEAN Against Disaster and Climate Risks side event on 26 May 2017 from 13:00 - 13:55 at conference location Sunrise 12 of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2017 (GPDRR 2017).

This roundtable will discuss the ASEAN Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Programme that is currently being implemented at both regional and national levels. One programme component at the regional level strives to establish a historical damage and loss database that will serve to enhance the understanding of past vulnerabilities as well as current and future risks. Aside from disaster
preparedness and mitigation planning, a loss database can be used as a tool for developing risk profiles of countries and strategies for risk financing and risk transfer.

The discussion will also touch on the current landscape of disaster risk financing
strategies and mechanisms at the national level using the case studies of Thailand
and the Philippines. An open forum will follow after the presentations.
