A recent rise in global awareness of climate-induced risk issues calls for intensified coordination among governments. ADPC is working together with stakeholders to revise national strategies in order to address the combined needs of reducing disaster risks and adapting to a changing climate.

With this in mind, ADPC invests in supporting national governments lead and implement comprehensive risk reduction agendas. This work cuts across various ministries and development sectors.

Our work aims to improve country-wide disaster risk management systems, which requires intensified coordination and the ability to provide technical support on the implementation of this process.

United Nations agencies, international organizations and NGOs increasingly identify disaster risk management as a crucial dimension related to their respective program activities.

Each of these developments have received further impetus through the progressive implementation of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and through the commitments called for in the Hyogo Framework of Action for 2005-2015.

Strengthened government capacities in disaster risk management – it’s our priority

The primary emphasis of building Disaster Risk Management system initiatives through ADPC projects is specifically dedicated to strengthen capacities of the disaster management authorities at the national, provincial and district levels of countries. Our aim is to develop and enforce disaster mitigation action plans, policies and regulations, while also seeking to encourage innovative risk reduction initiatives.Our work in this area is wide-range and includes, but is not limited to:

• Strengthening government institutions and supporting the implementation of national and sub-national strategies, action plans and programs on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation;
• Supporting to develop and implement region-specific, multiple-action Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation programs;
• Developing and implementing programs on community based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR); and
• Facilitating partnerships, knowledge networking and exchange of experiences to promote innovation in disaster risk management.
