Dr. ZOU Ming, Deputy Director-General
of National Disaster Reduction Center of China (NDRCC)/Department
of Disaster and Social Relief of Ministry of Civil Affairs, People’s
Republic of China(MOCA) led a delegation of eight officials to
ADPC from 19 - 25 February 2006. The study visit was one of the
activities based on an agreement signed by Dr. WANG Zhenyao, Director-General
of NDRCC/MoCA and Dr. Suvit, Executive Director of ADPC in May
2005.
The delegates were warmly welcomed by Dr. Suvit at AIT Center on 20th February. Dr. Suvit expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s visit to learn more about ADPC, thus strengthening further collaboration between ADPC and NDRCC/MoCA in disaster risk management. The delegates showed interest in ADPC’s presentations. The presentations highlighted ADPC and its activities, Current Trends in Disaster Management and Overview of Community Based Disaster Risk Management. After the presentations, a good discussion on further cooperation between two organizations took place.
The delegates visited the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) of Thailand’s Ministry of Interior and one of its academies, located in Pathumthani Province. They also visited the Thai Red Cross and its emergency stockpiles of disaster relief. The human survivor kit during disaster emergency in the stockpiles made an impression on the delegates. Under ADPC’s arrangement, the delegates visited relevant UN agencies in Bangkok, such as FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, UNDP Regional Center and UNESCAP.
The delegates met Mr. He Changchui, Assistant DG and Regional
Representative for FAO Office for Asia and the Pacific and his
colleagues, Ms. Nescha Teckle, Advisor on Crisis, Prevention and
Recovery, Mr. Sanny Jegillos, Regional Program Coordinator for
Capacity Building for Sustainable Recovery and Risk Reduction in
Tsunami Affected Countries and Ms. Zenaida Delica, Advisor of South-South
Cooperation of UNDP Regional Center and Mr. Wu Guoxiang, Chief
of Space Technology Applications Section, Information, Communication
and Space Technology Division of UNESCAP. The delegation had effective
discussions on cooperation between China and respective UN agency.
The delegates expressed their appreciation to ADPC for organizing
their visit and making their stay pleasant with prospective scope
for collaborations in Thailand .
