Report on Providing ADPC Experts
to Work in Beijing, China in May 2005
Recognizing the importance of the
last year Tsunami problems, as well as to fulfill the commitment
made by H.E. Mr. Wen Jiabao, Prime Minister of P.R. China in the
Indonesia Summit in January 2005, the Chinese Government was pleased
to provide a funding package to conduct a study course to educate
and raise awareness the tsunami affected countries, with assistances
from the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).
As
per an invitation from the National Disaster Reduction Center
of China (NDRCC)/ China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs (MoCA),
Ms. LingLing Jiang, Project Manager (China & North-East Asia)
of ADPC worked in Beijing, China from 8 th May to 13 th 2005.
LingLing provided assistances on the organization, design, and
identification of one international expert for the Study Course
on Disaster Risk Management for the Tsunami Affected Countries
that was conducted by NDRCC/MoCA in Beijing from 23 rd to 28
th May 2005.
Thirty-six participants
from 12 tsunami-affected countries attended the study course in
Beijing. In the morning of 26 th May, Ms. Lolita Bildan, Project
Manager of ADPC’s CRM Team contributed
two lectures titled “Climate Variability and Disaster Risk
Management” and “Establishing Regional End-to-end Tsunami
Early Warning System in Southeast Asia” to the study course.
The participants showed interests in the lectures given by
Lolita, and a lot of discussions between Lolita and participants
were done during lunchtime. |
