Study Course and Field Visits on Disaster Management for Officials of Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau (21 – 25 June 2004) A delegation comprised of 16 officials from Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau led by Mr. Li Jisuo, Deputy Director of Department of Disaster and Social Relief of the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau, participated in a study course and field visits on disaster management at ADPC from 21 to 25 June. It was the fifth course on disaster management for Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau since 2000. ADPC’s Executive Director, Dr.Suvit Yodmani made a very warmly welcome to the participants. Mr. Zhang Wanhai, Counselor and Permanent Representative of China to UNESCAP from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China attended the opening ceremony and delivered an inaugural address. He encouraged the participants to study hard and bring more information on disaster risk management back to China after training. The course addressed the participants’ needs very comprehensively. The ADPC training team developed this course on the basis of analyses of previous evaluations and the feedback, which received from officials of Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau before the course. On the basis of this evaluation, they made appropriate changes in the course syllabus in order to meet the participants’ needs more effectively. ADPC’s Experts from Australia, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Switzerland gave lectures on various aspects of disaster risk management. During the course, the participants visited Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Ministry of Interior, Thailand and Thai Red Cross Society.
