From the evaluative statements by the learners of the FRM 5, it can be stated that the Course was successful and that there has been a transfer of knowledge both at the theoretical and practical levels on Flood Disaster Risk Management. The Course has been rated as very relevant, useful to the job and needed by Disaster Managers. Except for the course in the classroom, the FRM-5 participants were impressed by the field visits. Particularly, the participants were afforded a boat ride along the almost completed three – kilometer river reclamation project in Beijing that made the river biologically alive, a water park for people, and a more efficient drainage for rain water in contribution to local flood management. The person who acted as guide was the engineer who designed the whole project. The Research Center on Flood and Drought Disaster Reduction (CDR), the ADPC partner for the FRM-5 Course in China, provided secretarial assistance to ADPC during the conduct of the Course. The CDR did all its best to provide the needed support and assisted in facilitating most of the activities of the Course and contributed to provide Chinese resource persons as well.
