Philippines Government Awards ADPC “Gawad Kalasag”

On 21 August 2002, the Republic of the Philippines conferred on ADPC the “Gawad Kalasag” award in recognition of excellence in disaster management. The award was presented in Manila to Dr Suvit Yodmani, ADPC Executive Director, by the Philippines President H E Mrs Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, on the occasion of the 2002 National Disaster Consciousness Month.

“Gawad Kalasag” literally means an award for protecting or shielding. This Special Citation was given in recognition of ADPC’s significant contribution in capacity building programs and project development efforts of the National and Local Disaster Coordinating Council in the country through the provision of technical and skills development, search and rescue (SAR) training, funding and resource generation, and the series of Disaster Management Courses for Filipino professionals and disaster practioners. The Philippines government declared, “The ADPC shall remain a partner in efforts toward building safer communities in the Philippines.”
