MFR Course in Indonesia

The first national Medical First Response (MFR) course for Indonesia was conducted in Jakarta from 7-20 April 2002. Attending the course were 23 participants from the Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS), Ambulance 118, Indonesian Red Cross, Jakarta Fire Service, Disaster Brigade and the Scout Movement. The team of instructors comprised past graduates of the regional MFR Instructor Workshop in Thailand. Master trainers from Miami Dade Fire Rescue Department monitored the course. 

CSSR Course in Nepal 

A sub-regional Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) course for South Asia was conducted in Kathmandu, Nepal from 28 April to 7 May 2002. It was followed by a CSSR Adaptation Workshop on 8 May. The course was attended by 11 search and rescue personnel from India and 13 from Nepal. The purpose of the CSSR course is to provide search and rescue personnel with knowledge and skills necessary to search for, stabilize and extricate victims trapped in collapsed structures using the safest and most appropriate techniques.

HOPE Course Meeting in Bangkok

A Hospital Preparedness for Emergency (HOPE) meeting was conducted from 29-30 April 2002 at AIT in Bangkok, Thailand. Attended by HOPE Module Coordinators, the meeting discussed issues of timing of course topics and action plans for module writing. As a follow-up, a HOPE Write-shop will be held from 1-4 July 2002 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

SAR Canine Training in Nepal

A Canine Search and Rescue training course was conducted in Kathmandu, Nepal from 6-11 May 2002. Of the 15 participants, seven were from the Royal Nepal Police and eight came from the Royal Nepal Army. The purpose of the training was to provide dog handlers with skills to train dogs to search for live victims trapped in collapsed structures during disaster situations.

CSSR Course in Indonesia

A sub-regional Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) course for Southeast Asia was conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia from 26 May to 4 June 2002. It was followed by a CSSR Adaptation Workshop on 5 June. The course was attended by 12 search and rescue personnel from the Philippines and 11 from Indonesia, some of whom were graduates of the previous MFR courses conducted in their countries.
