Safe Site selection and shelter management is crucial for saving lives during an emergency. Understanding the importance of these concepts, the Program for Reduction of Vulnerability to Floods in Thailand, supported by USAID-OFDA, developed the Manual for Inclusive Safe Site Selection and Flood Shelter Management in Thailand. The manual took international standards related to safe shelter management and adapted it to the Thai context. The manual is designed to teach community’s how to select safe sites and establish shelters that meet international standards taking into account various aspects such as health and nutrition, shelter management etc. In the future, this manual has the potential to be integrated into Community Based Disaster Risk Management in Thailand.
