ADPC signed a partnership agreement with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research that has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, which is an autonomous body within the United Nations. The partnership's purpose is enhancing the effectiveness of the U.N. through appropriate training and research. This partnership shared the common goals and objectives with regard to developing comprehensive strategies for Flood Disaster Risk Management in the Rivers State in Nigeria. Based on the agreement, a special training course on flood disaster risk management with changing climate was held from 05-16 August 2013 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Twenty-five senior policy makers representing various technical agencies and other key stakeholders in the Rivers State attended the training. The course led to develop a comprehensive flood disaster preparedness program for the rivers state of Nigeria. This also promoted south-south cooperation between Asia and Africa in managing flood disaster risks with a changing climate.


KEY ACTIVITIES

- Five-day training course on flood emergency management in a changing climate.

- Field trip to flood-prone sites in the state.

- Visit the offices of the national emergency management agency (NEMA).

- Final assessment and presentation of framework to River state.
