Description

This is a project supported by OFDA from the Annual Program Statement (APS) managed from OFDA/USAID RDMA office in Bangkok. For implementing in Myanmar, the consortium consisting of five experienced partners with experience of DRR programming in Myanmar will jointly implement the ?Program for Improved Disaster Management and Resilience against Natural Disaster in Rakhine State, Myanmar? over a period of 33 months. The Consortium will harness significant institutional strengths in diverse areas such as early warning systems, mangrove protection, management of mass evacuation in post-natural disaster settings, support for disaster management planning, multi-hazard and risk assessment and data management, and rural development to implement a multi-faceted program whose objective is ?To contribute to improving disaster preparedness and reducing risks for all people in Rakhine State.?

Key Activities

?The illustrative activities are structured under the six objectives are outlined below. 1. Objective 1: Improve readiness to prepare for and respond to natural disasters, timely and effectively: 2. Objective 2: Improve construction practices that increase preparedness and resilience: 3. Objective 3: Improve the effectiveness of early warning systems that reach from national to state, township, and community levels: 4. Objective 4: Increase disaster management and preparedness skills of key government and nongovernment personnel in Rakhine State: 5. Objective 5: Increase awareness and education of disaster preparedness among the people of Rakhine State: and 6. Objective 6: Increase mangrove protection along Rakhine State?s coastline: ADPC would be taken the responsibility of developing the objectives 2 and 3 from the above six objectives.
