Description

Struggle to enhance capacity for effective multi-hazard early warning systems as a preparedness measure for making vulnerable communities resilient are continued to be exemplified in Asian countries. The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) with the support from various UNESCAP Tsunami and Climate Preparedness Trust Fund is now implementing this Regional project including the program Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Philippines a comprehensive technical assistance project to enhance the capacity of end-to-end multi-hazard Early Warning Systems (EWS) for coastal hazards in various countries of the Region.

Key Activities

The project activities will be relating to the following five result areas vis-a-vis components:

a) Improved Institutional linkages between International & Regional EWS with national level EWS in target countries;

b) Most vulnerable areas to extreme coastal hazards identified and risk potential assessed through development of scenarios;

c) Improved EW dissemination by national warning centres and use of multi-hazard EW by at-risk communities for responding to coastal hazards effectively;

d) Improved policy environment and institutional arrangements for EW and responding to coastal hazards; and

e) Improved Policy and Practice guidance and changes for communication and evacuation of persons with disabilities in early warning systems and emergency management.

Output

Capacity building ofthe pilot target countries: Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Philippines in coastal hazard end-to-end early warning.
