Description

ADPC in collaboration with SEI will be able to establish a research and adminstrative support team for SEI's project "Early warning and community preparedness: Strengthening the technology-community interface" of SEI's SIDA funded "Sustainable Recovery and Resilience Building in the Tsunami Affected Region". The ADPC support team will consist of one Project Manager, one Research Assistant, one Administrative Associate and one IT Specialist (all ADPC staff).

Key Activities

The tasks are as follows: IT Specialist ? Create joint SEI/ADPC webpage and set up an e-forum Administrative Associate ? Development of the webpage and structure of the e-forum ? Support workshop and e-forum logistics Research Associate ? Review overall progress made on EWS in the Indian Ocean since the 2004 Tsunami ? Review post tsunami changes in institutions and policies on DRM and EWS development in Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia ? Add to the table of actors and EWS programmes and projects in Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka ? Assist in facilitation of e-forum Project Management The project will be jointly managed by ADPC and SEI. ADPC will maintain the necessary coordination and liaison with the SEI team as and when needed.

Output

? Establish an e-forum on last mile early warning system in collaboration with SEI and RTF and the various interested agencies in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia (1 April - 30 May 2009) ? Provide support for a regional lessons learnt workshop on disaster preparedness and early warning to be hosted by LIPI in Indonesia (early June-exact dates to be determined) ? Provide input to the overall project report to SIDA, which will be a synthesis of EWS stakeholder consultations, literature review and outcomes of e-forum and regional workshop (due 30 June)
