The Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC) of the Royal Government of Bhutan, received a grant from DANIDA for a project entitled Support to Enhancing Adaptive Capacity to Climate Change under the DANIDA Climate and Development Action Programme. The project aims to address opportunities for reducing vulnerability to climate change in Bhutan with current development cooperation, and as strategic climate change adaptation-related interventions. This project will support capacity development, implementation of adaptation measures and research and development efforts of the various institutions of the Royal Government of Bhutan on anticipated climate change impacts. Of the six project output components, the Hydro-met Services Division (HMSD) of the Department of Energy is implementing Output 5: Enhancing Capacity for Hydro-meteorological Services and Climate Modeling. ADPC as facilitator of the Regional Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) and under MoU with the Royal Government of Bhutan, will assist HMSD in the implementation of Output 5 activities. HMSD is engaging ADPC to design and initially establish a 24/7 National Weather and Flood Forecasting and Warning Center for providing reliable weather and flood forecasting and early warning of related hydro-meteorological hazards to ensure preparedness.
