Refresher course on DRR for youth volunteers in Myanmar

The Relief and Resettlement Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Rehabilitation of Myanmar organized a 3-day refresher course on disaster risk reduction for youth volunteers in Myanmar.

Held at the School of Social Welfare, the refresher course was participated by 60 youth volunteers who have participated in the Training of Trainers course on disaster risk reduction to disseminate knowledge on disaster preparedness in their communities.

ADPC, UN-Habitat and World Vision have trained youth volunteers in Myanmar on disaster management and community-based disaster risk reduction in collaboration with the Relief and Resettlement Department for the past year.

Following the training courses, the department aims to establish Youth Volunteer Committees in all villages with the goal of raising disaster awareness and improving the communities’ knowledge of early warning systems, disaster response, recovery and rehabilitation.

The opening ceremony of the refresher course was attended by H.E Dr. Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin, Minister of Social Welfare, Dr. Myint Thein, Minister of Social Affairs of Yangon Regional Government and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and the ministry’s staff from the Yangon region.

climate change.
