ADPC on UNISDR’s Ask an Expert forum on 16–22 February

16 - 22 Feb 2015

Bangkok, Thailand

ADPC’s Director Dr. Peeranan Towashiraporn will be participating in the dialogue on UNISDR’s Ask an Expert forum on 16–22 February 2015. Dr. Towashiraporn will share ADPC’s experiences in assessing the natural disaster risks in the South and Southeast Asian countries and answering questions on how risk assessment can be utilized in finding the most suitable disaster risk reduction measures for each context.

A comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction begins from the utilization of scientific information to quantify risk. This supports the strengthening of government systems for effective risk management at all levels and the application of risk reduction measures in development.

“In view of expanding disaster risks in many Asian countries, there is a growing need to profile hazards along with associated exposure, vulnerability and risks to population,” says Dr. Towashiraporn.

ADPC utilizes science to address challenges related to disaster risk management with a special focus on scientific quantification and mapping of disaster risk, effective risk communication, linking geospatial technology to disaster preparedness and response, and disaster risk financing.
