ADPC launches iCARE webinar series: Innovation in Climate Adaptation and Resilience

17 Mar 2022

Bangkok, Thailand

ADPC is pleased to announce a series of webinars on innovation in climate adaptation and resilience (iCARE) to discuss the applicability and sustainability of innovations for enhancing climate resilience in South Asian countries.

Seven webinars will be organized on a host of topics throughout 2022. This series will bring together global experts and practitioners on climate adaptation and resilience to share their practical field experience from other regions.

The iCARE webinar series will be organized under the Climate Innovation Challenge (CIC) that is a part of a 5-year project called “Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CARE) for South Asia"—a partnership between ADPC, Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES), and the World Bank.

The Program for Asia Resilience to Climate Change (PARC)—a trust fund administered by the World Bank and funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)—is supporting ADPC to identify and pilot innovations to reduce climate risk and build climate resilience of communities vulnerable to such risks and extremes.

ADPC is implementing this initiative by supporting innovation challenges across South Asia that will crowdsource innovative and disruptive technology solutions for resilience through grant awards, matchmaking, and pilot-testing.

An amount of US$ 2 million has been made available to sixteen innovative pilot projects from around the world selected for their disruptive and cutting-edge technologies. Among others, innovations include the Internet of Things (IoT) and deep-learning models to automatize land-use and climate-smart farming, and digital systems for decision support.

The iCARE series is expected to help all the stakeholders with learning lessons, share knowledge and apply them in scaling the pilot innovations. The series will also showcase the progress made under CIC pilot projects which are currently being implemented in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

The iCARE webinar series will cover the following topics:

1. Partnership in Innovations for Climate Adaptation and Resilience in South Asia

2. Scaling Innovations in Climate-Smart Agriculture

3. Climate Sustainable Economy and the Need for Risk Information and Analytics

4. Climate-related Fiscal Risks and Financing Solutions

5. Adaptation, Resilience and Innovation in Built Infrastructure

6. Innovative Water Management Solution in Changing Climate

7. Measuring Innovations to Scale in Climate Adaptation and Resilience
