Supporting municipalities for inclusive disaster and climate resilience planning

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) has been recognized by two local Nepali newspapers for providing technical assistance to the development of the Local Disaster and Climate Resilience Plan (LDCRP) with Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction Centre (NDRC) in Ratnanagar municipality in Chitwan district.

Mr. Narayan Ban, Mayor of Ratnanagar municipality and Mrs. Bimala Duwadi, Deputy Mayor, participated in the event along with disaster risk reduction (DRR) officials, ward chairpersons, executive members and employees.

The LDCRP process will initiate with development of disaster profiles of all 16 wards in the municipality with participation from disaster victims, Red Cross Society, people's representatives, tole development committees and other community groups and representatives.

The technical assistance is part of ADPC's Asian Preparedness Partnership (APP) program supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and United States Agency for International Development's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) and Building Resilience through inclusive and climate-adaptive Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia-Pacific (BRDR) program supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented jointly by ADPC, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) for an inclusive LDCRP.
