Information is aid: helping community radios to fight COVID-19

Bangkok, Thailand

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) joins hands with the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) Asia-Pacific to raise awareness against COVID-19 through community radios.

Fifty community radios have joined the AMARC Asia-Pacific Campaign - Community radios against COVID-19 so far from 13 countries in Asia and the Pacific region. The Campaign is already guaranteed to reach out to one million listeners across the region. AMARC Asia-Pacific formally launched the campaign last week and is encouraging more broadcasters to join the initiative so no one, especially the most vulnerable people and communities are bereft of vital information to protect their health and lives.

The Campaign website hosts scripts of public service announcements (PSA) that can be translated and broadcasted by local radios. Two types of messages are available: (1) general PSA scripts – do’s and don’ts of COVID-19 and (2) PSA scripts for the vulnerable audience.

The Campaign website also includes resource materials and links to sources of reliable information about the COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign website is a work in progress and relevant materials will be regularly uploaded.

The Campaign is supported by the Kathmandu, New Delhi and Bangkok offices of UNESCO, Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (NOREC), Shaplaneer Japan, Heinrich Böll Stiftung Southeast Asia Regional Office, International Media Support (IMS), BHN Association Japan, Asia Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), UNDP LaoPDR and IMS/FOJO Myanmar.
