Promoting disaster research and training through MoU

ADPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Crisisonomy Institute (NCI) of Chungbuk National University, Republic of Korea to promote research collaboration, training courses, staff exchanges and online learning on disaster risk reduction.

Mr. Hans Guttman, Executive Director at ADPC signed the MoU with Prof. Jae Eun Lee, Director at NCI. Additional NCI delegates present included Dr. Seol A Kwon, Director at Center for Disaster Safety Innovation, Dr. Seung Hyun Song, Center for Risk Society and Disaster Prevention, and Mr. Longtian An, Team Leader of Research Support Team.

Prof. Jae Eun Lee explained that “Crisisonomy” and “Disastronomy” are research disciplines created by NCI that encourage academic research on disaster causes and preparation strategies, and the new partnership with ADPC will support NCI’s efforts.

Mr. Guttman mentioned that ADPC’s Core Principles of Science, Systems and Applications equally recognize the importance of using scientific knowledge and technology to better understand disaster risk, and ADPC looked forward to this new initiative with NCI.

After the Signing Ceremony, NCI delegates were invited to an ADPC Headquarters tour where they spoke with ADPC staff about each departments’ work and observed the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake monitoring system and Ventusky Cyclone/Typhoon monitoring system which are broadcasted at ADPC.
