Message from the ADPC's Executive Director on International Women’s Day

Bangkok , Thailand

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a celebration of progress made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment, ADPC reiterates its resolve to building women’s resilience to disasters by enhancing their capacities at all levels.

Since the success of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development relies on removing the root causes of gender discrimination and unlocking the power of the underprivileged, ADPC aims to promote gender equity and equality throughout all its work.

In his message, Hans Guttman, ADPC's Executive Director, said, "though it is a fact that women are disproportionally affected by disasters, we still lack easy access to tools, such as gender-desegregated data to develop actionable plans for ensuring gender perspectives in disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian action."

"ADPC is committed to promoting governments in Asia-Pacific to use modern tools and technology such as geographic information system to understand gender dependent factors better when developing DRR policies, and plans, leading to an increased resilience to disasters for all,” Hans reaffirmed.
