Urban Disaster Mitigation

Urban disaster mitigation course provides participants a broad overview of disaster mitigation and the urban context of the processes. This course focuses on the objective of establishing sustainable livelihood option for disaster mitigation in urban population in Asia. It is expected that the course provides participants with a broader view of how disaster mitigation is put into practice through various implementation alternatives. It develops an understanding of the impact of urban issues and disaster situation in Asia types of disasters (nature, causes and effects) and to specific vulnerabilities and how it links with rapid urbanization.

Module 2. HAZARD AND RISK

This module presents specific characteristics of hazard in relation to vulnerability and risk, which is given through presentation and discussion and syndicate work to apply the tools and techniques of multi-hazard analysis of risks to geographic location.

Module 3: RISK EVALUATION AND LOSS REDUCTION

This module reviews the loss estimation and risk evaluation process. It explains concept of acceptable levels of risk for natural hazard according to the baseline risk determined by risk assessment process. It introduces methodology and processes for loss estimation as well as and advantages and disadvantages of loss estimation methods.

Module 4. MITIGATION FOR LOSS REDUCTION

This module reviews mitigation strategies, scales priorities and benefits, emergency planning and post disaster rehabilitation

Module 5: APPROACHES FOR MITIGATION IMPACTS OF DISASTER EVENTS
