INTRODUCTION

The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is currently conducting a study in the developing countries of Asia and the Pacific to document the existing capacity building efforts on disaster management. The purpose of the study is to identify, document and assess the effectiveness of capacity building activities underway and recommend additional activities that will enhance the capacity of developing country institutions and individuals to effectively respond to disasters.

This study would be presented in the regional workshop expected to be organized in May 2005 in Thailand. Selected successful capacity building initiatives would be showcased at the workshop.
